MURFREESBORO – Southwest Arkansas Regional Intermodal Authority (SWARIA) member Pike County is in the middle of tourist season. No one enjoys it more than Dewight Mack, Pike County Judge. Judge Mack loves the people of Pike County and is right at home working daily to make Pike County a better place.

The Caddo River in Glenwood stays busy with all the people floating, canoeing, and kayaking on the river and continues to visitors to the county. The Crater of Diamonds State Park in Murfreesboro welcomed approximately 130,000 guests in 2020.

But there are also some new tourist attractions and businesses coming soon. The Corp of Engineers is going to build a bridge near Kirby Landing. This bridge will be used by those who come there to experience the beauty of the area while riding all-terrain vehicles. Pike County Judge Mack is working with West Central Arkansas Planning and Development District to apply for grants to build ATV trails around the lake.

Additonally, there are plans to lease the old hospital building in Murfreesboro to a non-profit group that has plans to turn it into a detox unit. Currently, the person interested in doing this is applying for grant funding. A new Dollar General recently opened in Glenwood and Kirby now has a Mexican restaurant.

Judge Mack is looking forward to seeing great progress and growth in the remaining months of 2021 and going forward.

(Thanks’ to SWARIA’s Leah Hasley for the details!)

  1. So excited for Pike County’s continued growth under the watchful eye of Judge Mack. What a beautiful place to visit.

  2. A Mexican restaurant in Kirby?!!! How awesome. And the ATV trails Kirby Landing sounds great. Hopefully, people will respect the beauty of the land and not trash out the area which is costly.
