A groundbreaking ceremony was held June 28, 2018 for the new rail spur that will be located in the Clark County Industrial Park. The rail spur is a project of the Southwest Arkansas Regional Intermodal Authority and the Clark County Industrial Council.
West Central Arkansas Planning and Development District helped obtained the federal grant from the Economic Development Administration, which is part of the United States Department of Commerce. The Economic Development Corporation of Clark County provided the matching funds for the federal grant to build the rail spur.
When complete, the rail spur will serve both a public transload facility and the future Sun Bio pulp mill, which will be built on the other side of U.S Highway 67. This is Phase I of the project. It represents the first $1 million of what will be a $16 million economic development project that will be owned and operated by the Southwest Arkansas Regional Intermodal Authority.
